Having successfully operated a Disability Advice Unit for several years, The Peoples Centre has identified a need for a wider range of services within our community
The Peoples Centre is committed to tackling the root causes of poverty and helping improve the lives of our fellow community members.
A fundamental factor in alleviating family poverty is to raise the household income of those who are disadvantaged by disability, unemployment, through retirement or single parent status.
By expanding our current range of services the Centre can play a more active role in assisting those who are disadvantaged achieve an improved quality of life.
From 23rd June 2006 the Peoples Centre will be offering the following:
Benefit calculations to help identify shortfalls in household incomes
Assistance in completion of applications for a comprehensive range of welfare benefits
Advocacy in contacting government departments such as DWP, HM Revenue and Customs and Local Authorities
A free and confidential service is available, providing help and advice on:
· Disability Living Allowance;
· Attendance Allowance;
·
Carer's Allowance;
· Incapacity benefit;
· Pension Credit;
· Jobseekers allowance;
· Working and Child Tax Credit;
·
Housing/Council Tax Benefit
· Social Fund Loans and Grants.
The Peoples Centre looks forward to developing stronger links and working in partnership with the local community to achieve our goal of assisting in the alleviation of poverty.

Information and guidance on everything from filling in questionnaires through to help with appeals can be provided. An outreach and home visit service is also available but due to demand appointments are necessary.
