The Social Inclusion Project (Education) believes that education is the key to moving people from exclusion to inclusion

Background

Many adults who are socially excluded are not in a position to find work. They need to be equipped with the skills and knowledge to do so. Our research shows that people need good Basic Skills: literacy, computer literacy, numeracy and spoken and written English (for those who do not have English as their first language). They also need the confidence to sell themselves and their skills in the labour market so they can remain employable.

How does our work help?

The Social Inclusion Project (Education) attempts to empower under-represented groups to acquire these skills. Our courses are geared to the way such groups learn and the circumstances in which they prefer to learn.

Great emphasis is placed on encouraging students to learn together and by providing a relaxed and informal atmosphere with as much support and advice as it is possible to give. If we do not provide the courses which individuals require, we can “sign-post” to other organisations where they are available. We can also provide bespoke courses for community based groups who are involved in the fight against poverty and social exclusion.
